When working with buyers, one of the most embarrassing things for a REALTOR is to struggle with getting into a home. It happens to every agent multiple times.
Just recently, I ran across a lockbox that was jammed. My client was so excited to see the house, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to despite taking time off work.
I’ve also come across a lot of low-quality key copies that don’t work smoothly with the lock and ended up damaging the lock in the process.
If you have two different keys (knob and deadbolt), be sure to label them (really, it should be your real estate agent’s job) so that people don’t ruin your locks trying to use the wrong key.
Furthermore, if your front door lock doesn’t secure properly, it detracts from the perceived quality and upkeep of the home.
On the flip side, if the door is freshly painted, the screen/storm door works properly, and the locks and knobs are of good quality, it’ll help create a great impression after your neighborhood and curb appeal have impressed your buyer.
